Organic Soy Candles + What You Should Know

I am an honest business. I will not make claims on being organic and non-GMO when it just isn't possible.

Organic is a word used very broadly these days. Yes, I buy organic food and drinks, but they are clearly marked and most importantly certified.

Soy wax cannot be certified organic. The chemical change needed to turn soybeans into soy wax does not allow for organic certification, even if it was somehow made using only 100% organic soybeans. The fact that more than 90% of the soybeans growing in the USA are genetically modified also stops this certification. (Source: CandleScience)

I was excited to come across American Soy Organics online one day. AWESOME! Certified organic soy wax!!! I emailed them the same day and here was their response:

The waxes that we carry are all from soybeans grown in the Midwestern United States. The process that the soybeans go through to create this specific type of soy oil does remove the Genetically Modified part of the soybean (if they are GM) but we cannot guarantee that they all come from non-GMO fields. Currently there is not enough non-GMO soybean farmers out there to create the type of market needed for Soy Wax. We have been working with farmers in the Western United States to possibly create a Certified Organic Soybean Wax but at this time it has not been a possibility due to the sheer number of soybeans needed to create soy wax. All of our waxes are food-grade, have had the genetically modified parts removed (if they had any) and are highly monitored to guarantee their quality but at this time I cannot tell you with certainty that they came from non-GMO or Certified Organic fields. At this time, to my knowledge, there is not a wax out there that can be truthful in saying that they are 100% coming from a non-GMO field. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns!

Thank you!

So, as you can see, there is really no such thing as organic soy wax, and therefore should not be marketed as such.

My wax supplier removes all of the genetically modified materials, pesticides, or herbicides, or stabilizers from during the wax making process. (Source: EcoSoya Website)

I also confirm with my fragrance oil companies - free from harmful phthalates and are also cruelty-free/vegan. Please contact me for specifics on oils if you have concerns and I will send verification.

I would not want to be fooled when buying anything, and I hope this helps you realize I am not here to do it to you. I am honest and vegan, 100%.
